Kolkata: In a major setback to India, pace spearhead Zaheer Khan has been ruled out of the One-day International series against South Africa, to be played later this month.

Speedster S Sreesanth will replace Zaheer who had hurt his right knee just before tea on Wednesday. Zaheer didn't take the field on the last day of the ongoing second and final Test against South Africa here on Thursday.

BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty said in a press statement on Thursday that Sreesanth will replace Zaheer in the ODI series against South Africa.

However, a PTI report adds that Zaheer stands a chance to play in the third and final ODI in Ahmedabad on February 27.

The first two ODIs will be played in Jaipur on February 21 and in Gwalior on February 24.

India coach Gary Kirsten had said Wednesday that Zaheer had stiffness in his quadriceps. (courtsey cricketnext.com)
